Someone gets pulled over in Orlando and ends up arrested on a warrant from a county they have not been to in years. It happens constantly, and it is the situation families understand least. Call (407) 254-5554 and we will find every warrant on the person, not just the one they were arrested on.
What is actually going on
A warrant is an order from a judge in the county where a case is open. It does not expire and it does not stay inside that county. It sits in a statewide system, so any officer anywhere in Florida who runs the name will see it.
Most of the ones we deal with come from a missed court date, an unpaid fine or a probation problem in a case the person had half forgotten. The arrest is often incidental. A traffic stop, a fender bender, reporting something as a witness.
The part that costs people a day
The bond on an out of county warrant is not set by the county holding the person. The Ninth Judicial Circuit bond schedule says it directly: bail on those warrants is governed by the amount set in the warrant itself.
So if a Polk County judge wrote $1,500 on the warrant, that is the number, even though the person is sitting in the Orange County Jail. It does not matter what the local schedule says for that charge.
The other thing to understand is that posting the bond does not always mean walking out that day. Some counties want the person transported to them. Others accept a bond posted here and release locally. Which one it is depends on the county that issued the warrant and what the warrant says. We check before you pay, because the answer changes what you should do.
When there is more than one thing holding them
This is the mistake that costs families real money. A person arrested here on a local charge and an out of county warrant has two separate holds. Paying the local bond alone gets them nothing. They stay in the jail on the warrant.
Before you pay anything, we confirm every hold on the person. If there are three, you need three bonds, or the money you just spent buys nothing at all.
What it costs you
The premium is 10% of each bond, set by Florida law. Two warrants at $1,000 each is $200 in premium, not $100. We quote the whole thing so there are no surprises halfway through.

If you know about a warrant and nobody has been arrested yet
This is much easier to fix before the arrest than after. A warrant that is handled deliberately, with a bond arranged in advance and a lawyer involved, usually means a short visit rather than a weekend in custody. A warrant that gets found during a traffic stop at 11pm on a Friday means the whole weekend.

Warrants inside Orange and Osceola
If the warrant came from the same county the person was arrested in, it is not an out of county warrant and it works normally. Failure to appear on an existing bond is treated as its own charge, and under the current schedule that one has to be set by a judge at first appearance rather than bonded at the window.
